Environmental stewardship is being aware that you don't need to layer. Ride your bike as much as you can. Personally, I won't let my friends idle their vehicles. Like, even in the summer, it's ridiculous; winter I understand. But still, every little bit counts. And I always tell people, as silly as it sounds, a lot of the time, I regurgitate the one tonne challenge details to a lot of my friends, and say: check your tire pressure; turn your lights off; use as much alternative energy as you can.
