I mean these artists never have a mental block. They can also come up with something to draw. And also because I taught drawing it's interesting observing how people draw. With Suvenaie, she uses the same type of line for everything. She draws her whole image, sometimes she leaves it black and white, other times she colours it, and she is, in effect, creating almost like a colouring book. Whereas in Baker Lake when I would observe some of the artists drawings, because their artwork would stem from a signed tradition where they would actually cut out shapes and applique them, sew the caribou skin shapes onto their clothing, how they draw is reflected in this technique. They actually cut out, would cut out shapes out of cardboard and would lay them down on the sheet of paper, draw around them. So they got their line from shape which is very unusual, because usually people start off with line. So they'd get their line from shape, and they'd also sometimes would create composition that way. And I'm not saying they do that every time but it was noticeable enough for me to take note of that.
