When you first saw a policeman what were your thoughts? When they first came here to Inuit homelands they came here to enforce the Canadian laws. And they had other duties when they came here. For example, they were assisting the Inuit with med aids. They assisted people, for example, with wildlife issues. And they assisted people with residential schools, when we were going to residential schools. In this case, in this print, they're talking about trading of sealskins and fox skins inside the igloo.
Today, the law is handled differently in Nunavut. Many Inuit now serve in the RCMP, and with the reclaiming of our land, we Inuit can incorporate our own laws through the legislative assembly of Nunavut.
