The Quilliq is an object of prime importance to Inuit. In the past, it sat at the centre of traditional Inuit life, inside the iglu, inside the qammaq (sod hut), or the tent. When the weather was getting colder, it was our heater, and our cooking stove, and our clothes dryer. And when Inuit were going hunting on the land, they'd take along a quilliq, to use as their lamp, to make water from ice, and to cook their stew. And most of all, the quilliq was kept burning by women - it belongs to woman. The quilliq is so very useful - possibly the most useful of all Inuit implements.
